  3. Renin is released in repsonse to:
  4. ΓÇó Renal arteriolar blood pressure. 
  5. ΓÇó Changes in tubular sodium concentration.
  6. ΓÇó Stimulation via sympathetic nerves.
  7. The major cause is a decrease in perfusion pressure, and this may result from haemorrhage, hypotension, or a reduction in the extracellular fluid volume after sodium depletion. 
  8. Conversely, hyperkalaemia, angiotensin II, and antidiuretic hormone (ADH or vasopressin) can all inhibit renin secretion. 
  9. The release of renin activates a cascade system.
